The Netherlands gaming authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has instructed hosting provider Digital Ocean to stop providing services to illegal affiliate gambling websites.
According to the KSA’s announcement, a binding cease and desist order was issued to the provider in relation to its hosting of websites offering deals for unlicensed gambling products and services. The two websites in question are casinozonderregistration.net and nieuw-casinos.net, neither of which has the required licenses to promote or advertise online gambling.
An investigation into the two websites failed to determine the owners and so the KSA, as per the country’s legal code, has opted to warn any intermediaries offering services to the illegal sites to cease and desist as soon as possible. Digital Ocean is one such intermediary as its service allows the unlicensed websites to be accessed in the Netherlands.
The provider now has four weeks to stop hosting the websites. If it fails to do so, the KSA may follow up with a sanction and possible financial penalty.
