The Netherlands gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has fined Casbit Group NV for offering unlicensed online gambling in the Dutch market.
According to the announcement, the KSA found that the company was offering illegal gambling through its lala.bet website in direct breach of the Remote Gambling Act.
Casbit was previously warned about allowing access to its site from the Netherlands and initially made the site inaccessible to Dutch customers. However, a follow-up check by the KSA revealed that it was still accessible.
As a result of the findings, the KSA has imposed a penalty of €280,000 per week on Casbit for as long as the illegal games are still available. The maximum penalty is set at €840,000.
This is the second fine imposed on a gambling operator for offering unlicensed online gambling so far in 2024. In February the KSA fined Gammix Limited €19,679,000 ($21,319,286) for illegal online gambling through several of its websites. This was the largest fine the KSA has ever imposed. The previous record was the €12,640,000 fine issued to N1 Interactive Limited in 2022 when the regulator fined a total of 5 companies €26 million.
